DESCRIPTION: This twilight river float will start at the river bank below the Lincoln Street Dam and will end at Garvey Park. We will paddle along a 3.6 mile-long route through South Wichita, passing under several road and railroad bridges and by some parks and tree-lined areas.
FLOAT LEADER: Vince Marshall....for further information and for reserving a kayak send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or, call (316) 680-9669. Even if you plan to use your own kayak, let Vince know you are coming on this river float in case of location and time changes.
FLOAT LAUNCH SITE: We will launch our boats from the river bank located just below the Lincoln Street dam. The Lincoln Street dam parking area can be driven to by turning onto S. Waco St. from Lincoln St. (just east of the bridge & dam), and then driving 1 block south and following the road onto Bayley St. and thence to the parking area.
FLOAT LANDING SITE: We will land at the Garvey Park area located at the end of South Washington St. in South Wichita. You can drive on Pawnee St. turning south on Washington and driving to the end of the street, or, you can drive on S. Hydraulic Ave. to Galena St. (next to a McDonald,s and near the Hydraulic Ave. exit from I-135). Turn west on Galena St. and drive to Washington St., then turn south and drive to the end of Washington St. and to the entrance of Garvey Park.
TIMETABLE: Meet by 5:15 p.m. at the launch site (Lincoln St. Dam area), unload boats and run shuttles in a timely fashion to the parking area near the landing site (Garvey Park area). We will then return to the launch site and should be on the water no later than 6:30 p.m. and off the water before dusk.
SUGGESTED CARRY ITEMS: Bring drinking water, sun and bug protection, and the usual safety and essential gear.
REQUIRED: A signed 'Waiver and Release of Liability' form is required (even if you have your own boat). Please download a release form, available at this website under <Floats> and complete before arriving. All participants are required to wear a personal flotation device (PFD or life preserver) while on the water.
COST: There is no cost for joining our floats which are made possible by voluntary, tax deductible, donations from friends, supporters and participants like you - $15 donation is suggested when using ARC supplied equipment. Please make donation checks payable to The Arkansas River Coalition, Inc. When giving a cash donations, write the amount of your donation on the back of your Waiver of Liability form.
