What's ARCAP?

ARCAP is the Arkansas River Corridor Access Plan

Sometime in 2006-2007 the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (now KDWP&Tourism) proposed hiring consultants to research and develop a plan for canoe and kayak access to the Arkansas River between the Reno-Rice county line and Oxford.  A partnership comprised of The Arkansas River Coalition; Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner Counties; the cities of Hutchinson, South Hutchinson, Wichita, Derby and Oxford along with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks was created, each entity contributing to the financial cost of developing the plan. The plan was vetted in public hearings and the final draft was released in 2009. The plan has been implemented in part and continues as a template and guide for future development. Some additional access points, not in the original document have been developed since the release of the plan.

The original final document submitted by the consultants is available at: http://www.wichita.gov/Government/Departments/PWU/EnvironmentDocuments/ARCAP%20Master%20Plan.pdf
